Regarding Thomas Wagner’s letter “Divisiveness belongs to Democrats” (June 9, TribLIVE): Do you remember when Mitch McConnell swore to make Barack Obama a one-term president on the day he was sworn in?

Or when former sheriff Joe Arpaio and Donald Trump started the birther theory, which later caused Obama to show his birth certificate to prove he was born in the United States? There are still many people who don’t believe he was born here, despite the document being readily available. I don’t remember any other president having to produce his birth certificate.

And what about the final straw of the Republican Senate refusing to give Judge Merrick Garland a hearing, taking away Obama’s right to appoint him to the Supreme Court?

Our only hope is to pray for this country that our politicians will begin to work together instead of throwing each other under the bus.
