A 21-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl were shot in separate, unrelated incidents in Aliquippa, according to state police.

The man was shot multiple times in an incident reported around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 300 Superior Avenue.

Aliquippa police arrested the suspect, Vershaw Cortaze Bell Jr., 21, of Braddock, after Bell allegedly ran from his vehicle, state police said.

State police said Bell discarded drugs as he ran. A loaded handgun was found in his vehicle, police said.

The victim was taken by private vehicle to Sewickley Valley Hospital and then flown to Allegheny General Hospital. State police said he was last listed in stable condition.

Bell is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, drug possession and other offenses.

The other incident happened around 1:20 a.m. Thursday at the Linmar housing complex.

Aliquippa police asked for state police assistance. State police did not release any details on how the girl was shot.

The girl was flown from the scene to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.

State police were investigating and asked anyone with information to call them at 724-773-7400.
