Seven residents have now died from the coronavirus at a Kane Community Living long-term care facility, according to data from Allegheny County.

All of the deaths occurred at Kane’s Glen Hazel location, where 62 residents have tested positive for the virus. There are no more pending covid-19 tests among residents there, and 35 have tested negative.

Four Glen Hazel residents have been hospitalized.

Fourteen residents have recovered, according to the data for the county-run facility. Kane officials are considering residents recovered once they consult with a physician, it’s been 14 days since the onset of symptoms and the resident has been asymptomatic for at least three days.

The McKeesport facility is the only other Kane location in which a resident has tested positive. Twenty residents were tested, and one test is pending.

In terms of employees, 28 have tested positive at the Glen Hazel facility, 33 have tested negative and five are still awaiting results. One employee has tested positive at each of Kane’s other locations: Scott, McKeesport and Ross. One test is pending for an employee at Scott.

The virus was first reported March 25 in Kane’s Glen Hazel location when an employee tested positive. Two residents tested positive two days later.

Across Allegheny County, 181 nursing home residents across 34 facilities have contracted the virus, according to data from the state Department of Health, and 43 have died. Sixty-four nursing home employees have tested positive for the virus.

Statewide, more than 5,000 long-term care residents in nearly 400 facilities have been infected by covid-19. The death toll among residents is 796, according to state health officials – nearly half of the state’s 1,564 deaths.

Correction: The story has been updated to reflect Kane officials’ designation of a recovered patient.
