A man was found dead in an overnight house fire in Pittsburgh’s Troy Hill section, public safety officials said.

Gerard Anthony Koch, 56, was discovered on the first floor of the home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death was accidental and was caused by thermal and inhalation injuries, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Fire crews responded at about 12:20 a.m. to a structure fire at the intersection of Gardner and Hatteras streets. Heavy smoke and significant flames were shooting from the two-story home, officials said.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control quickly, by about 12:45 a.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
