Pirates, food bank volunteers help to feed those in need

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank did their part to help local families dealing with effects of the coronavirus Saturday by hosting a drive-up food distribution event in the PNC Park parking lots on the North Shore.
Volunteers from both organizations supplied those in need with boxes of food, including fresh, frozen and perishable items.
The event was funded in part by the Pirates’ $50,000 donation to the food bank earlier this week.

“This event is a great example of what we, as a Pittsburgh community, can do together to help our neighbors,”
Pirates president Travis Williams said in a statement: “We could not be more proud of our employee volunteers and the people of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank who make this their mission every day.”
Hundreds of cars were served by the volunteers, who made sure to adhere to social distancing protocols.
