Ryan Murphy’s time with the Pitt basketball team will last one season.

Murphy, who transferred from New Mexico Junior College last year after spending the previous season at Charlotte, entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Murphy will have a year of eligibility remaining as a graduate transfer.

“We appreciate Ryan’s efforts with our program this season and wish him luck as he looks to continue his playing career elsewhere,” coach Jeff Capel said in a statement.

Murphy started the season as Pitt’s best outside shooting threat, totaling 13 points in the opening victory against Florida State and a season-high 28 against Nicholls State. He recorded double-digit scoring in 11 of the first 19 games.

His crowning achievement was hitting the winning shot with four seconds left to beat Boston College, 74-72, on Jan. 22.

But Murphy suffered a concussion in practice eight days later and missed the next three games.

When he returned to the lineup, he scored only 17 points in the final nine games while averaging 10.8 minutes.

Overall, he led Pitt with 42 made 3-pointers. His 33.1 shooting percentafe from beyond the arc and 83.3% free-throw rate (25 of 30) led all regulars. Overall, he shot 36.1% from the floor (81 of 224), eighth on the team.

Murphy is one of four scholarship players leaving the program. Eric Hamilton, Kene Chukwuka and Samson George participated in senior day ceremonies at the final home game.

Chukwuka missed the season after hip surgery, and George played 22 minutes.
