YOUNSTOWN, Ohio — The parents of a 2-year-old boy who authorities said was beaten to death have been arrested and charged with murder and child endangering.

Derek Carter Jr., 27, of Campbell and Sharday Bing Dixon, 33, of Struthers were arrested Monday in Youngstown by members of a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force, The Tribune Chronicle reported.

They were indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury last week in the death of 2-year-old Sebali Bing Dixon. Online court dockets don’t show whether they have attorneys.

Sebali was found not breathing at a Youngstown home in October 2018 and later died at an Akron hospital. His death was ruled a homicide in March 2019, when an autopsy showed he had been beaten or punched in the abdomen along with evidence of previous abuse.

Bing Dixon was also charged in the indictment with permitting child abuse.
