State police are asking the public’s help identifying the person who shot and killed two Hereford cows on a Somerset County farm between Friday and Saturday.

Trooper Eric Bowser of the Somerset station said Wednesday the cows were shot with a rifle sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Saturday in a pasture of a farm along Mastillo Road in Jenner Township.

One cow was found dead near the road and the other pregnant cow fell dead in front of the 85-year-old farm owner as it walked up to him “crying” in pain, Bowser said.

The farm has 22 head of Hereford cattle, Bowser said.

Both cows were worth $3,800.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone state police at 814-445-4104.
