A McKeesport man and an Indiana woman face drug charges after state police said they discovered more than 500 stamp bags of heroin and crack cocaine during an Indiana County traffic stop Wednesday.

Shortly after noon, state police said, they pulled over an SUV on Laurel Road in Armstrong Township after a trooper noticed it was traveling at “an extremely slow rate of speed, traveling down the middle of the roadway,” and after the driver failed to properly signal a left turn.

Police searched the car and its occupants after detecting the odor of burnt marijuana and said Nafis F. Hurt, 27, threw a package of drugs to Elizabeth A. McCullough, 39, as they were seated in the vehicle along with three additional passengers.

According to police, Hurt was found with drug paraphernalia in his possession and McCullough had 19 blue stamp bags of suspected heroin in her purse, along with 523 stamp bags of suspected cocaine and a baggie containing a suspected crack rock weighing 22 grams.

Both were charged with one felony count of drug possession with intent to deliver and two related misdemeanors. They face a Feb. 11 preliminary hearing in District Judge Susanne V. Steffee’s Homer City court.

They were taken to Indiana County Prison in lieu of $150,000 bail. Court records do not list an attorney for either.
