The peeling russet paint in the neck tattoo of the late rapper Mac Miller is the perfect piece of reality in a new mural honoring him at the intersection of James and East Ohio streets on Pittsburgh’s North Side.
A flurry of events around the recent release of Miller’s posthumous album, “Circles,” and a snap of warm weather earlier this week inspired mural artist Jeremy Raymer to bring out spray cans to create Miller’s portrait in just several days.
A steady stream of fans visited the new mural on Friday, shaking hands with Raymer.
Crowds stopped by the new mural as they attended Miller events, including a listening party for “Circles” at venues nearby.
Miller’s birthday will be commemorated with a free party Sunday at Stage AE on the North Shore and other festivities.
Raymer has created other signature murals in the area, including Roberto Clemente nearby in East Deutschtown, which is among his more than 55 murals in 16 Pittsburgh-area neighborhoods.
There is another mural of the late rapper on Paulson Avenue in the city’s East Liberty neighborhood.
Miller grew up in Pittsburgh’s Point Breeze neighborhood and attended Allderdice High School. He died in Los Angeles on Sept. 8, 2018. He was 26.
