Minor league report: Penguins lose to Thunderbirds in shootout

Forwards Thomas Di Pauli and Sam Miletic each had a regulation goal and an assist for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Springfield Thunderbirds at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

Forwards Anthony Angello and Jordy Bellerive each had two assists for the Penguins (17-12-3-2) while goaltender Casey DeSmith made 27 saves in the loss.

Highlights:

The Penguins’ next game is against the rival Hershey Bears at home on Friday, 7:05 p.m.

Goaltender Emil Larmi made 45 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 6-1 win against the Norfolk Admirals at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Forwards Brandon Hawkins, Yushiroh Hirano and Ryan Scarfo each had a goal and an assist for the Nailers (15-12-4-0) while forward Justin Almeida, a fifth-round pick of the Penguins in 2018, added a goal.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is against the Cincinnati Cyclones in the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati on Friday, 7:35 p.m.
