Wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt, James Conner walked without a limp in the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room Monday. Not 24 hours earlier, the running back was injured on a second-quarter carry during a loss at the New York Jets.

Conner said he had an MRI on Monday morning and was awaiting results to see what his status would be for the week leading up to the Steelers’ regular-season finale Sunday.

Conner has played just six full games this season, the follow-up to making the Pro Bowl in his sophomore NFL season. Conner has missed five games because of a shoulder injury and parts of four others for various injuries.

“It’s frustrating, but it’s part of the game,” Conner said. “Just things you have to deal with.”

A win at the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 would go a long way to helping the Steelers return to the playoffs. Having their No. 1 running back for the game, of course, would help, but Conner said the timing of the injury at this point in the season might not factor into his availability.

“I’m not sure. We’re just going to take it day-by-day,” Conner said. “Just keep chugging along.”
