Letter-writer Oren Spiegler (“Attack on Yovanovitch cruel,” Nov. 30, TribLIVE) is probably a fine human being, but he really should let go of the impeachment hearings/Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch issue, which seems to have twisted his knickers greatly.

In my 25 years with the State Department, I was microwaved by the Russians, had Viet Cong rockets hit close to my Saigon apartment, was car-bombed in Bolivia, was trailed by the KGB in Moscow, and was almost hijacked to Hanoi, to mention a few unpleasantries endured during my career.

Furthermore, having served on the personal staff of secretaries of State Edmund Muskie, Alexander Haig and George Shultz, I doubt I would wilt if POTUS merely tweeted a critique of my job performance, as happened with Yovanovitch.

I initially recommended a therapy dog for Christmas for Yovanovitch. Now I’m thinking that one for Spiegler would also be appropriate.
