Pitt’s ACC champion women’s volleyball team, ranked second in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, settled for a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament but will host first-round games Friday and Saturday at Petersen Events Center.

This is the second consecutive season Pitt will be a host for first- and second-round matches.

While making its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in as many seasons, Pitt (29-1, 18-0 ACC) will meet Howard (20-12) at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner plays either Cincinnati (25-6) or VCU (24-6) on Saturday.

The No. 6 seed is a bit of a surprise for Pitt, which is fifth in the NCAA Women’s Volleyball RPI. Pitt is the first team since Georgia Tech in 2004 to go unbeaten in the ACC.

The regionals will be held the following weekend at four campus sites to be determined. The four winners advance to the championship round Dec. 19 and 21 at PPG Paints Arena.
