Minor league report: Penguins, DeSmith defeat Sound Tigers

Goaltender Casey DeSmith made 26 saves for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 5-2 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Wells Fargo Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday.

Forwards Anthony Angello, Adam Johnson, Oula Palve and defenseman Matt Abt each had a goal and an assist for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton while forward Chase Berger added two assists.

The victory moved the Penguins into first place of the AHL’s Atlantic Division with a 13-6-2-1 record.

The Penguins’ next game is at home against the Texas Stars on Friday, 7:05 p.m.

Goaltender Alex D’Orio made 21 saves for the Wheeling Nailers in a 4-1 loss against the Kalamazoo Wings at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling.

Forward Ryan Scarfo scored the lone goal for the Nailers (8-7-4-0) who have lost four consecutive games.

Highlights:

The Nailers’ next game is at home against the Toledo Walleye on Sunday, 4:05 p.m.
