The Boulevard of the Allies between Market and Wood streets in Downtown Pittsburgh remained closed Monday morning because of a water main break, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said.

The waterline failed just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning, said Jeffrey Besong, Point Park University’s chief of police.

Besong said the waterline break did not affect Point Park University buildings and did not cause flooding within them. He said crews were working in manholes on Wood Street on Sunday night.

Besong said Point Park University police responded to the scene of the break and notified Pittsburgh police and the Pittsburgh Sewer and Water Authority.

Pittsburgh police deferred comment to the city’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure and the utility in charge of the waterline. PWSA was not available to comment Sunday evening.

Tribune-Review news partner WPXI reported Saturday that the 8-inch waterline services PPG Place but that its failure did not affect the ice skating rink there.

The building’s property management personnel were not immediately available to comment.

Update: This story has been updated to include Pittsburgh police deferring comment on the waterline break.
