Riverview School District planned to resume classes Tuesday after determining a threat that led to a districtwide closure Monday was not credible.

Superintendent Margaret DiNinno said in a prepared statement that the threat, received Sunday afternoon, was a “non-direct, weapon-related threat to the high school.”

DiNinno had said Sunday night that officials decided to close the district’s schools “to be proactive and to err on the side of caution as we work with local authorities to investigate a rumored threat.”

The district’s athletic events scheduled for Oct. 28 also were canceled.

Verona and Oakmont police investigated the threat. Officials from both departments were not immediately available to comment.

“The safety of our students and staff is a priority to all of us. We do not take this responsibility lightly. Please be advised that a quality safety program must prioritize aspects of confidentiality in order for it to be effective,” DiNinno said in a statement.
