Murrysville delayed a vote Wednesday night on the two-year renewal of an animal-control contract with Hoffman Kennels.

Gary Hoffman, who owns and operates the Delmont-based business, proposed a $10 hike on individual calls as well as his monthly service fee. Hoffman also proposed reducing the number of days he patrols the municipality from three to two.

“I know it’s minor, but reduced services and increased cost?” said Councilman Loren Kase.

Several members of council as well as Mayor Regis Synan wanted more information about what constitutes a “patrol,” and how many hours Hoffman regularly spends in Murrysville.

“We’re not being adversarial, but there are a few fundamental changes to how we’ve been handling this, so we’d just like a little clarification on those changes,” Council President Josh Lorenz said.

Murrysville Chief Administrator Jim Morrison said that since the municipality’s last renewal with Hoffman, “we have not received any complaints.”

Council will reconsider the contract at a future meeting.
