The idea of a flying car just got a bit of class.

And environmental friendliness.

Reuters reports planemaker Boeing Co. announced Thursday it is working with Porsche — owned by Volkswagen — on a concept electric flying car.

Boeing has been in competition with other companies to build aerial vehicles that could make vertical takeoffs and landings.

Reuters reports Boeing said it would explore, along with Porche, the market potential for upscale flying vehicles that can be used in highly populated cities.

In January, Boeing showed off its flying taxi prototype in Manassas, Va. The electric model was designed for fully autonomous flight, with a range of up to 50 miles, Boeing said.

In August, Japanese electronics maker NEC Corp. showed off its version of a “flying car,” a drone-like vehicle with four propellers. In the demo, it was able to hover about 10 feet off the ground steadily for about a minute.

We can only dream.
