1 injured in crash on Route 28 near Harmar exit

One person was hurt in a crash that snarled northbound traffic along Route 28 near the Harmar exit during Tuesday’s afternoon rush hour, officials said.

Police and medics responded to the crash, which was reported at 5:12 p.m., an Allegheny County 911 shift commander said.

One person was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, the dispatcher said.

The northbound lanes of Route 28 were blocked for about a half-hour before crews reopened the highway. Traffic appeared to be backed up through Fox Chapel and toward the Highland Park Bridge.

Officials anticipated having the wreckage cleared by shortly after 6 p.m.

State police are investigating.
