Former Pitt basketball player Ronald Ramon, who finished his career as one of the school’s top 3-point shooters, has rejoined the program as assistant director of operations.

Ramon will assist coach Jeff Capel’s staff with recruiting logistics, alumni engagement and community service.

“I feels amazing,” he said of returning to the Pitt program. “I’m thankful to Jeff and the staff giving me a chance to come back home.”

Ramon won’t be working with the team at practice, but he’ll offer off-the-court mentoring services.

“My job will be on the other side of the table,” he said. “I’ll mentor the guys off the court that will have nothing to do with basketball. It has to do with living situations, life skills and anything about my experiences overseas.”

Ramon, who played at Pitt from 2005-08, played professionally in Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Venezuela. He also represented the Dominican Republic in international competitions, including the 2014 and ‘19 FIBA World Cup.

Ramon, a 2008 Pitt graduate, finished his collegiate career with 1,096 points, 339 assists, 254 rebounds and 100 steals while help the team reach four NCAA Tournaments.

A native of The Bronx, N.Y., Ramon is ranked in the top 10 at Pitt in career 3-point field goals (fourth, 233), 3-point attempts (fourth, 590), 3-point percentage (seventh, .395) and assist-to-turnover ratio (fifth, 2.04:1).

“We are thrilled to add Ronald to our staff,” Capel said in a statement. “It is important to me to have a former player and someone who has had the honor of wearing the Pitt jersey on our staff.

“Ronald’s knowledge of game, relationships in the community and with alumni, and passion for Pitt basketball will be significant assets as we continue to build our culture here at Pitt. He was an outstanding player here at Pitt and will be an outstanding addition to our staff.”
