Fans of the ScareHouse will have to wait a little longer to get their spooky season started in Pittsburgh.
The opening of the new ScareHouse attraction on Penn Avenue in the Strip District — “Scream District” — was delayed due to permitting issues with the City of Pittsburgh, according to a statement from the company this week.
Scream District is now scheduled to open Oct. 10, pending city approval. It was originally scheduled to launch Sept. 27.
“The goal remains to bring Pittsburgh the best, most delightfully frightening show possible and to make these attractions the best ScareHouse has ever produced — and accessible to all fans, meeting ADA requirements in this historic location,” the statement said.
Any guests who have purchased tickets have been notified, the statement said. ScareHouse plans to expand operating hours and add additional days to compensate for lost attendance and revenue.
ScareHouse operated out of the former Elks Lodge in Etna since 2007, but moved to a historic building in the Strip District last June in order to expand.
The 10,000-square-foot space at 2420 Penn Ave. was transformed into the ScreamDistrict over the summer. It includes two experiences,”The Basement” and the “Stalked by a Killer” escape room.
