Three Monroeville police officers were sworn in before a borough council meeting on Aug. 8.
James Monkelis, Adam Condioto and Jeffrey Vertullo bring the municipality’s police force to 44, police Chief Doug Cole said.
The department is authorized to have 47 officers on its force, said Cole, who expects to hire three more by the end of the year.
Monkelis, 49, of McKeesport graduated from Steel Valley High School and Point Park University. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve in 2000 after serving for 10 years.
Most recently, he retired from the state police after 23 years in assignments in Somerset, Fayette, Westmoreland and Allegheny counties. He is a certified instructor in several law enforcement disciplines, such as active shooter rapid deployment and use of firearms.
Condioto, 34, of Pittsburgh graduated from North Catholic High School, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and the Everest Institute.
He most recently worked for the Mount Oliver police department from 2013 to 2019. Before that, he had stints with departments in North Braddock, Freeport in Armstrong County and Oakdale. He is certified to teach the use of Taser and less lethal impact munitions.
Vertullo, 25, of Export graduated from Franklin Regional High School and Penn State University. He most recently worked at the New Kensington police department and before that, worked in departments in Delmont Borough and Washington Township.
