Ben Folds is not only a prolific songwriter and performer, he is also an author.

Folds has just written his first book, a memoir called “A Dream About Lightning Bugs.” Of course he is also a singer and musician who has recorded many memorable songs including “Brick,” “Landed,” “Song for the Dumped,” and “Army.” His 1998 Ben Folds Five album “Whatever and Ever Amen” became a platinum record.

He likes Pittsburgh a lot, and he arrived a day early for a book signing Monday at First Unitarian Church. He performed Tuesday at Stage AE on the North Shore.

Ben Folds sat down with the Trib to talk about his book and his music and the stories behind both.
