Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik will undergo spinal fusion surgery Monday, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced Sunday.

The surgery will be done at UPMC Mercy Hospital and will address issues related to collapsing disks. Zubik has undergone three other procedures for the same issue.

An update will be provided when the surgery is complete.

Zubik will have a period of recovery after the surgery during which he won’t be able to attend public functions.

Zubik said he would be praying for Southwestern Pennsylvania and also asked for others’ prayers in return.
