Brandon Stone has been in Philadelphia since January, training and getting to know his new coaches and teammates at La Salle.

The former Southmoreland basketball standout and incoming freshman, who finished his prep career at Christ School (N.C.), is beginning to adjust to his new surroundings, confident in his decision to join the Explorers.

La Salle has begun to introduce its incoming players via social media. In fact, this is “Brandon Stone Week,” also known as #BStoneweek, where the program officially welcomed the 6-foot-11 Stone.

“Brandon is a versatile forward that is going to being a lot of different dimensions to our team,” La Salle coach Ash Howard said.

Stone, who had more than 20 Division I offers that he gained through his play at Southmoreland, Christ School and in AAU, is anxious to blend his game into the Explorers’ rotation.

“I’m really excited,” he said. “I’m ready to keep working on my game and getting prepared for the season. We just finished summer workouts so I’m anxious for the school year to start so I can keep getting better.

“I just have to keep pushing myself and earn my time.”

Stone initially narrowed his choices to four: Pitt, Penn State, Duquesne and South Carolina. But Pitt pulled its offer when Jeff Capel replaced Kevin Stallings and Stone ended up feeling a closer connection to La Salle than those other three schools.

La Salle will play against Duquesne in the Atlantic 10.

“I definitely made the right choice in coming here,” he said. “The coaches push me everyday and they care about us off the court.”
