K.J. Marshall, who played in three state high school championship games in North Carolina, has joined Pitt’s team as a freshman walk-on guard. Marshall, 5-foot-11, 160 pounds, was a high school teammate of Pitt sophomore Au’Diese Toney.

Marshall averaged 9.5 and 9.4 points over the past two seasons, hit 84 3-point shots and was ranked the No. 77 player in North Carolina at Trinity Christian. His teams won two state championships and 85 games while he scored more than 1,000 career points.

Pitt’s recruiting class also includes graduate transfer Eric Hamilton, junior college guard Ryan Murphy and freshmen Justin Champagnie, Karim Coulibaly and Gerald Drumgoole. Ithiel Horton, a Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team selection at Delaware last season, will sit out the 2019-20 season after transferring. Pitt also has starters Xavier Johnson, who earned All-ACC freshman honors last season, Trey McGowens, Terrell Brown and Toney returning next season.
