Spreadshirt, the cotton apparel print-on-demand company, says it plans to install $10 million in new printing equipment at its American and European production facilities, including the one in Hempfield.

Spreadshirt, founded in 2002 in Leipzig, Germany, operates a branch office and printing factory at 1572 Roseytown Road. The Hempfield facility will be one of two in the United States and two in Europe to receive the new high definition printers.

The Atlas printers from the Israeli company Kornit achieve 30-40% more prints per hour than other models, allowing faster delivery, according to Spreadshirt. They will be installed in the coming weeks at facilities in Hempfield and Henderson, Nev., as well as Spreadshirt’s European sites in the Czech Republic and Poland in 2020, the company said.

“With the new Atlas printers, we not only achieve top print results, but can also meet more customer demands in less time,” said Hanne Dinkel, Spreadshirt chief customer delivery officer.

In addition to cotton printing, Spreadshirt is planning to add new categories to its business, including printing on polyester sports clothing, embroidery for corporate goods, and machines for UV printing on non-clothing products, the company said.

An estimated 300 employees work at Spreadshirt’s four production facilities. Spreadshirt allows customers to access products designed by others or create their own designs.
