The Heinz Endowments will offer grants ranging from $1,000 to $150,000 to artists who create work that reflects social challenges and incidents of injustice in the Pittsburgh region.
The organization encourages projects that are initiated by younger people or center on youth voices.
Applications are now being accepted for the “Just Arts” program, which will distribute a total of $500,000 in grants throughout this year. Grant winners will be announced by Nov. 30.
Funding priority will be given to projects that “include significant input from communities, neighborhoods and residents most directly affected by injustice,” according to the Heinz Endowments.
“The idea behind Just Arts is to amplify the power of artists to bring hidden stories and truths to light in our community,” said Grant Oliphant, president of the Heinz Endowments.
The Endowments will hold information sessions at Carnegie Library branches in the Hill District on July 9, Hazelwood on July 19 and Homewood on July 26. The application deadline is Aug. 1.
