A man who said “Sorry, Happy Holidays” after robbing a Crafton bank with a BB gun last year pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of armed bank robbery, according to federal prosecutors.
U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said Brent Richards, 33, of Crafton, took just over $10,000 from the Citizens Bank at 31 Foster Ave.
The robbery occurred Jan. 8, 2018.
According to Brady, Richards went to the bank dressed in all black. He was carrying a black umbrella and what appeared to be a black-and-silver, semi-automatic style handgun.
It was later determined to be a BB gun.
Brady said Richards pointed the BB gun at two tellers, placed a white bag on the counter and demanded the tellers empty their drawers. Richards took $10,003, and, as he was leaving, stated: “Sorry, Happy Holidays.”
Richards’ sentencing is set for Oct. 16.
Richards’ mother, Melissa Kane, is accused of knowing about it and trying to protect him, federal prosecutors said in November.
Margaret Philbin, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh, said Melissa Kane’s case was pending as of Wednesday afternoon. She has not entered a guilty plea, Philbin said.
