A man, a woman and a 4-year-old child were killed Tuesday afternoon when their pickup truck collided with a tri-axle truck along Route 21 in Fayette County, state police said.

Officials weren’t able yet to identify the victims, but Fayette County Coroner Phillip Reilly indicated they were related, including an aunt and a grandfather of the young child.

The wreck happened just before 4 p.m. in the 1900 block of Route 21 in German Township, according to McClellandtown firefighters, who were among multiple emergency crews that responded.

The road would remain closed for some time while police completed their investigation, state police Trooper Robert Broadwater said.

The driver of the tri-axle wasn’t seriously injured, Reilly said.
