For “First Call” Monday, the Stanley Cup celebration in St. Louis was quite a show. There were a few hockey signings of note for Penguins fans. And another WPIAL star is heading to South Bend.

Carl Hagelin is staying with Washington. The former Penguin played in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and D.C. last year.
Now he has decided to stay with the Capitals. The speedy winger will make $11 million over four years.
The 30-year-old had 19 points in 58 games this past season. He was about to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Hagelin’s last contract was worth $16 million over four years.

The Penguins are going to have to deal with Jordan Eberle a while longer.
He inked a five-year deal to stay with the Islanders over the weekend worth $27.5 million.
The winger scored a goal in all four of the playoff games against the Penguins. He had nine playoff points, after tallying 19 goals and 37 points in the regular season.

Brotherly bond
Notre Dame already has WPIAL basketball product Robby Carmody.
Now his brother is going there to play football.
Four-star Mars offensive tackle Michael Carmody has declared that he will join the Irish. He’s a class of 2020 product.
For a while, it looked like Carmody would give up football to play basketball, like his brother.
But the younger Carmody had a growth spurt and is now up to 6-foot-6, 295 pounds.
Notre Dame has quite a few players from the region, as ND Insider pointed out, “offensive linemen Josh Lugg, Andrew Kristofic and Robert Hainsey, quarterback Phil Jurkovec and defensive lineman Kurt Hinish — sold Carmody on Notre Dame.”
No more Marvin?
Steelers fans won’t have Marvin Lewis to kick around anymore. The former Bengals coach was fired after the 2019 season.
The Fort Cherry product is now coaching with Herm Edwards at Arizona State. And it sounds as if Lewis is more than happy to stay away from the NFL.
Lewis made the comments on CBS Sports Radio, via ProFootballTalk: “Has it been a difficult transition for Lewis to leave pro football?
‘No, it has not,’ Lewis recently told Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio.
Does he miss it?
‘I do not.’
Will he return at some point?
‘I don’t think so. I’m fine.’
