Connellsville grad Madison Wiltrout finishes 3rd at NCAAs; All-American

A third WPIAL athlete has earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas.

North Carolina redshirt freshman and 2017 Connellsville graduate Madison Wiltrout placed third in the women’s javelin with a heave of 181 feet, 1 inch.

She joins Virginia redshirt senior and Hempfield graduate Bridget Guy and Arizona sophomore and Knoch graduate Jordan Geist earned All-American honors.

Guy placed fourth in the women’s pole vault and Geist placed third in the shot put.

The 2014 Hempfield graduate her third All-American honor on Thursday by clearing a season-best 14 feet 7 1/4 inches. She missed at 14-9 1/2.

The two-time ACC champion has soared to new heights at Virginia, setting new school standards. Her best jump is 14-7 1/2.

Geist’s had his best throw of 20.31 (66-7¾) on his third attempt of the competition on Friday.

Wiltrout, the 2019 ACC champion, was a four-time PIAA Class AAA champion and two-time Pennsylvania Gatorade Athlete of the Year.

After winning her second PIAA title, Wiltrout has battled elbow problems. North Carolina shut her down for a year after her senior season.

Wiltrout holds the school record at North Carolina after throwing 182-5 to win the women’s javelin ACC title earlier this season.

Wiltrout owns the high school national record of 185-8, which she set her sophomore season at Norwin. She also owns the PIAA Championship record of 182-8.
