An Ohio man was stopped with a loaded .38-caliber gun in his carry-on bag at Pittsburgh International Airport on Thursday, according to the Transportation Security Administration.
Federal workers found the gun as the man passed through a TSA security checkpoint.
Allegheny County Police confiscated the firearm and detained the East Liverpool man for questioning before allowing him to catch his flight. He was not identified.
The handgun was loaded with two bullets.
This is the 14th gun found at the checkpoint so far this year. In 2018, TSA officers caught 34 firearms at the checkpoint, up from 32 in 2017.
People who bring firearms to the checkpoint are subject to possible criminal charges. Travelers with concealed firearm permits are not allowed to bring guns onto airplanes in their carry-on bags.
A typical first offense for carrying a handgun into a checkpoint is $3,900. The complete list of penalties is posted online.
