Plum native R.J. Umberger is part of the 2019 class of the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame, the school announced Thursday.

Umberger played three seasons for the Buckeyes from 2000-03, leading the team in scoring all three years. He finished his college career with 129 points in 112 games. His point-per-game average is second-best among all Ohio State players since 1990.

Umberger is the highest-drafted player in program history, going 16th overall to Vancouver in 2001. He completed his degree in business marketing in 2011.

Other members of the class include football standouts A.J. Hawk and Mike Nugent and basketball coach Thad Matta. The class will be inducted Sept. 6 and honored at halftime of Ohio State’s football game against Cincinnati the next day.

Umberger, who retired in 2016 after 11 seasons in the NHL with Philadelphia and Columbus, was inducted into the Plum High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
