Irwin Borough has hired a part-time police officer to replace a former officer who was named police chief for Elizabeth Borough in Allegheny County.

Cody Stanoszek of North Huntingdon was hired May 8 as a part-time officer to replace William Sombo, who became Elizabeth Borough’s police chief in late March.

Sombo’s contract does not permit him to serve as a part-time officer, Chief Roger Pivirotto said.

“He was good asset for us,” Pivirotto said of Sombo, who was hired in June 2018. Stanoszek will be paid $19.50 per hour, after a two-week probationary period, according to borough council.
