Allegheny County school district superintendents made nearly $10,000 more than the Pennsylvania average, according to state Department of Education data from the 2017-18 school year.
William Short, Gateway’s superintendent, made $143,500 during that school year, which was $500 more than the state’s average of $142,964.
However, Short made around $8,900 less than the county’s $152,365 average.
District superintendents, on average, made $80.49 per student. Short made $43.67 for each of Gateway’s 3,286 students in the 2017-18 school year.
The highest paid superintendent, at Fox Chapel Area, made $216,511, and the lowest paid earned $108,222 at South Allegheny.
