Murrysville resident to perform with Edgewood Symphony Orchestra

Amy Simpson of Murrysville, a pianist, teacher and church musician, will perform Beethoven’s Fifth Concerto on May 11 with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra.

As a performer, she was recently featured in Stravinsky’s “Symphony in Three Movements” with the West Virginia University Orchestra. As accompanist, she was a winner of the Pittsburgh Concert Society competition. As vocal and instrumental accompanist, she has performed with faculty and students at a number of local universities, including Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, Point Park, Slippery Rock, and W&J. Simpson has performed in master classes with Till Fellner, Earl Wild, John Browning and Eunice Norton.

She has served as adjunct faculty at CCAC and West Virginia University, and as a private piano teacher in Murrysville for 30 years.

Simpson is currently a doctoral candidate in piano performance at West Virginia University, studying with Peter Amstutz. She holds a masters degree in music for piano performance from Carnegie Mellon University, where she studied with Ralph Zitterbart.

The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Agnes & Joseph Katz Performing Arts Center in the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh, 5738 Darlington Ave.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students, and are available online and at the door.
