A Native American re-enactor will portray a Shawnee warrior of the 1700s and discuss Shawnee culture at 7 p.m. May 15 at the Bushy Run Battlefield Museum, Route 993, Penn Township.

Thomas Vecchio, of Shaler, will present a first-person program detailing the Shawnee’s way of life. Vecchio has studied the native Shawnee language and will introduce the audience to some words and phrases, said Michael Tusay, museum facilitator for the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society. Vecchio will be the first presenter in the 2019 History Speaks Series at the 1763 battlefield site.

The program exemplifies the objective of the History Speaks Series to provide a fun and interactive method of teaching historical topics to the community, Tusay said.

Guests will have the opportunity to see and examine clothing and accessories and have questions about historical clothing answered by Jessica Young, who owns a historical costume business in Trafford.

Tickets for the May 15 presentation are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Tickets and reservations can be obtained by calling the battlefield at 724-527-5584 or emailing facilitator@bushyrunbattlefield.com.

The future presentations in the series are “The Jacobites: History and Culture” on June 19; “Distilling Whiskey” on Sept. 18; and “Sheep to Shawl” on Oct. 16.
