If you’re a Pitt fan, feel free to over-react to Bryce McGowens pinning one of his latest tweets atop his page Monday, the one proclaiming he has received a scholarship offer from Panthers coach Jeff Capel.

Offers are nothing new to the sophomore from Wren (S.C.) High School. He has others from Clemson, LSU, Xavier, Nebraska, St. John’s and TCU.
But maybe Pitt has an advantage connected to McGowens’ last name. His older brother is Trey, who was third in scoring at Pitt last season, averaging 11.6 points per game.
Of course, the McGowens’ recruitment has a long way to go.
He’s just finishing up his sophomore year at Wren, so his first collegiate basketball season wouldn’t be until 2021-22. The brothers could be Pitt teammates for that one season. Or, they could be ACC adversaries, if he decides to stay in the state and goes to Clemson. Or, he could get any number of offers from Power 5 schools between now and graduation day.
There’s no doubt that Bryce, who suffered a wrist injury late in the season, can play. He averaged 26.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, three assists and 1.7 steals per game this season while earning all-state honors. Rivals.com ranks McGowens, 6-foot-5, 180 pounds, 66th in the class of 2021.
