A national veterinary program is giving back to service dogs in the Pittsburgh area by offering free eye exams in May.
The American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists has partnered with BluePearl pet hospital to offer free eye exams at the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center at 807 Camp Horne Road in Ohio Township.
Exams will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. the whole month of May. Registration is open through April 30 and can be done here.
All animals must be formally trained service, working or therapy dogs that are currently working and have written proof of training. Those currently enrolled in a formal service or working animal training program may also qualify, but that is based upon clinic availability.
Guide, hearing assistance, drug detection, police, military, search and rescue, therapy and dogs assisting people with disabilities other than blindness all qualify for the exam.
The program has provided more than 68,000 free eye exams to serviced dogs since it started 12 years ago.
