A man was taken to Forbes Hospital in Monroeville after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run Friday night in South Greensburg.

The incident occurred after 7:30 p.m. on Broad Street in front of DeGennaro’s Restaurant and Lounge, which the man had patronized immediately before being struck.

South Greensburg Fire Chief Eric Hardy said the man was “lying on the roadway” when firefighters responded and was “alive and breathing” when he was loaded onto an ambulance for transport.

Restaurant patrons who rushed outside when they heard the man’s companions scream said he was bleeding profusely.

A description of the vehicle involved wasn’t available.

South Greensburg police declined to comment Friday evening, saying their investigation was in its infancy.
