The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania will toast donors Tuesday who have helped make the organization’s initiatives benefiting local families a reality.

Those being honored at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh are: Kim and Curt Fleming; Becky and John Surma and the Ryan Memorial Foundation.

“Through the commitment of these three Titans and Tocqueville Society members, United Way has successfully implemented initiatives to help young people succeed in school, improve the lives of financially struggling families, provide people with disabilities tools to succeed and ensure the care of vulnerable seniors,” Bob Nelkin, president and CEO of United Way Southwestern Pennsylvania, said in a statement.

Curt Fleming is director of Information Technology at Microbac Laboratories and volunteer with a number of local groups including the Children’s Hospital Circle of Care and, with his wife, Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry.

John Surma is the retired chairman and CEO of the U.S. Steel Corporation and Becky Surma an avid volunteer. The couple co-chaired the 2006 United Way Campaign.

The Ryan Memorial Foundation was established in 1981, by John Ryan Jr. as philanthropic means helping people and organizations in the family’s community.

The United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania serves the following counties: Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland, Fayette and southern Armstrong.
