Cheering the Pittsburgh Penguins to victory is one of the things to do in Pittsburgh this weekend.
Ice time, big screen
The Penguins host the New York Islanders at noon Sunday and even if you don’t have a ticket you can still be part of the action.
The team has once again decided to set up the KeyBank big screen for home games next to PPG Paints Arena. It’s in a new location this year – at the arena parking lot at the corner of Centre Avenue and Logan Sreet.
Fans are invited to arrive two hours prior to game time to listen to live music and test their skills at interactive games known as the “Penguins Combine.” There will also be face painters.

Captain Kirk
Science fiction icon William Shatner, best known as Capt. James T. Kirk on the original “Star Trek” series, is the keynote celebrity appearing this weekend at pop-culture memorabilia show Steel City Con at Monroeville Convention Center. The event is Friday, Saturday and Sunday and not all celebrities will be there all three days. Shatner will be there Friday and Saturday.
Kirk is a true science fiction icon who has influenced millions of “Star Trek” fans throughout the world. The 88-year-old actor who portrayed him in the television series and subsequent movies is not the character. In real life, he is a multitalented actor, producer director and writer who published “Live Long and … What I Learned Along the Way” this past fall, with David Fisher.
Fellow Star Trek crewmate Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov) will also be on hand.
For fans of the American television series, “The Office,” they can meet five of the staffers of Dunder Mifflin Paper Co.
In addition to hundreds of vendors, there is also a trivia contest, celebrity question and answer session and guest panels.

Laugh out loud
Comedian Kevin James of CBS “The King of Queens” that ran for nine seasons will be performing Friday at the Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall in Munhall.
The show continues to air daily in syndication. He also starred in the sitcom “Kevin Can Wait” for Sony Television and CBS. He added a second show May 2.

Tekko convention
Tekko 2019, a Japanese pop culture event featuring cosplay, music, anime, gaming and other activities runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Since its inaugural convention in 2003, Tekko has been bringing the best in Japanese pop culture to Pittsburgh.
The large variety of characters in anime and manga allows almost infinite possibilities for self-expression, so costumes are a particularly important part of Tekko.

The sixth annual Mother of All Pottery Sales is Sunday at the Union Project in East Liberty. The biggest clay celebration in Pittsburgh brings talented ceramic artists and pottery lovers together under one roof.
There will be hands-on activities, a live demonstration from professional ceramic artists, a clay activity in the studio and a sale featuring locally made pottery from the region’s top ceramic artists.
