A 21-year-old woman was seriously injured Tuesday when she was hit by a car while walking along Old William Penn Highway near Blairsville, Indiana County.

State police said Michelle A. Franco, 21, of Dayton, Armstrong County, was taken by ambulance to Allegheny Health Network Forbes Hospital in Monroeville with multiple injuries after the 4:30 p.m. collision along the road in Burrell Township.

Police reported Franco was walking on the right side of the road and entered the travel lane when she was hit by a 1996 Lincoln Continental driven by Margaret Patz, 67, of Blairsville. Police said Patz swerved in an attempt to avoid Franco.

Trooper Brandon Smith said neither Patz nor a passenger in her vehicle, Thomas Patz, 74, were injured. Both were wearing seat belts.
