Each week aspiring artists gather at the Latrobe Art Center for instruction and friendship.

On Thursday, the watercolor class led by instructor Elmer Knizner, 86, of Youngwood, worked on painting a scenic road leading to a farm.

According to Knizner, the class typically works on one painting per week, but the current project has more detail, and will take a couple weeks to complete.

“I love the landscapes” said Knizner. “I’ve been an outdoors person with the fishing and the hunting, and it gives you a peacful mind about where you were when you were young. It’s not chaotic [nature], it’s nice and peacful out there.”
