An Arnold man told police he struck another man’s truck with a weighted golf club this month because the other man cut him off in traffic and slammed on his brakes in front of him, according to a criminal complaint.

Theodore Clayton Volkar, 47, admitted that he got out of his van and hit the truck March 14 when the two vehicles were stopped at Route 56 and Wildlife Lodge Road, the complaint said.

“He was just pretty matter-of-fact, like he wasn’t going to tolerate this and that was his version of justice,” Lower Burrell police Chief Tim Weitzel said of Volkar.

The driver of the truck, Steven Richard Juart, 40, of Leechburg denied cutting off Volkar’s van and said Volkar caused more than $1,700 in damage to his vehicle, according to the complaint.

Police received several calls about a road-rage incident involving a weapon. Responding officers found the men’s vehicles stopped in the eastbound lane of Route 56.

“It’s right in the middle of traffic … When we get there, they’re still in the lane, still blocking traffic because they’re not able to act like rational adults,” Weitzel said.

Volkar told police he became very angry and got out of the van to confront Juart. The two exchanged words, and then Volkar allegedly struck Juart’s truck, damaging a taillight and the tailgate.

Police charged Volkar with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and disorderly conduct, a summary offense. Juart was charged with one count of careless driving, a summary offense.

Neither man had attorneys listed in online court records.
