Freshman State Rep. Bob Brooks, R-Murrysville, announced last week more than $50,000 in state funding for Murrysville-area emergency responders, part of $188,000 in overall funding for his 54th District.

“Our firefighters and EMS personnel work tirelessly day in and day out to protect us,” Brooks said. “This state grant program helps to relieve some of the financial burden they face and allows them to continue providing their life-saving services to our communities.”

The funding includes $14,151 for Sardis VFC No. 1, $13,162 for Murrysville VFC No. 1, $12,007 for White Valley VFD, $11,512 for Murrysville Medic Fire Company No. 1 and $7,155 for Murrysville Medic One EMS.

Additional funding will go to fire companies and EMS services in Fawn Township, Harrison Hills, West Deer, Lower Burrell and Markle.

Grant money comes from state gaming proceeds, and can be used to build, repair or renovate a department or service’s primary building; to purchase equipment; to participate in training; or to pay down an organization’s debt service.
